A Camp Site Orchard in Raub, Pahang

Many can only dream about quitting their jobs and leaving the rat race, buying that beautiful piece of land somewhere far from the stresses of civilisation. It takes plenty of courage to leave the daily grind behind even with all its downfalls. There have been several times in my own life where I dreamt of living off the Earth and dwelling peacefully within the quiet serenity of nature.

“The Earth has music for those who listen.”

Today, as we were on route to Fraser’s Hill, we met a brave man who has taken a leap of faith to follow his dreams, his name is Kang Soon Lai and he is the owner of the Boutel Orchard in Raub.

Upon entering this charming orchard, you will be greeted by a magnificent man made tree house, an artistic creation made of recycled bamboo and wood from the surrounding jungle, it is being built by the orang aslis (natives) and will probably be ready by the time you visit.  Kang Soon Lai says it will look like a giant bird’s nest tree house when it is completed. How interesting! 😉

If you love glam camping and if you need a quick escape to nature for some healing, then try this place out. But please be prepared to rough it out slightly because although there are facilities you are still out in “nature”.

HONEYCOMB CELLS

The owner Kang Soon Lai has creatively thought up all the room designs available here. There are four to five in total, you can of course also bring your own tents or like us, our Campervan and camp here by a stream that flows through this property.

There is a family of three honeycomb hexagonal prismatic cells. Each cell is very basic inside with a queen bed that can very cosily sleep two people.

You will have to be a little careful at night climbing in and out of the centre cell, to be safe bring along torch lights. The other chalet (right photo) is a stand alone bungalow that has a fridge for those of you who require it.

24 HOUR TRAVELLER EXPERIENCE

IMG-20170721-WA0031Although we did not stay here, we did spend a lovely afternoon chatting with Kang Soon Lai about life and what it’s like running an orchard. Managing an orchard like this is far from easy. You deal with a different set of problems and the start of any business is always the hardest part. Well, at least it’s problems that you can enjoy solving. 🙂

We were sincerely entertained by his many inspiring stories of experience.
